The Buzz Group
A buzz group is a small group who are given an assignment to complete in a short time period. Generally, each buzz group records their output then reports to the larger group.
It is a method to develop and express imaginative ideas, opinions. It is way to stimulate thinking. Firstly, this help trainers to draw breath. Can permit gauge the mood by listening to some discussion, change pace of discussion and encourage participants to reflect what was learnt. Buzz group discussion is a method in which small groups of 2-4 participants discuss a specific question or issue in order to come up with many ideas in a short time.
Since small groups produce a buzzing sound while discussing, this method is known as a buzz group. Firstly, you should decide the appropriateness of the method. After that, prepare a specific question/issues for a discussion; prepare key learning points related to the issues; present question/issues; ensure that every member fully understands it and ask individual participants to write down their views.
After that allocate 5 – 10 min. time for the discussion, you have them share and discuss their points within the group. Supervise each group and encourage individuals to participate. Stop discussion after the allocated time has expired. Ask each group to share their points preferably one point from each group at a time. Record them on the board or chart sheet. Discuss the points and draw conclusions. Relate them with the key learning points.
